New Jersey's whistleblower clock is one year, not two
A Law Against Discrimination lawsuit is generally two years. A CEPA suit is one year. The Division on Civil Rights is 180 days. Unfair is still not illegal.

New Jersey is still an at-will state for an ordinary private job. Being fired for a reason that feels unfair is not, by itself, illegal. The statutes that change that are specific, and they do not share one clock.
A Law Against Discrimination claim in Superior Court is generally two years. The LAD does not print that number. The New Jersey Supreme Court borrowed the personal-injury clock in Montells v. Haynes, 133 N.J. 282 (1993), which points at N.J.S.A. 2A:14-2. That two years is the discrimination lawsuit. It is not the whistleblower lawsuit.
The Conscientious Employee Protection Act is the whistleblower statute. N.J.S.A. 34:19-5 says an aggrieved employee may, within one year, institute a civil action. The year runs from the retaliatory act, not from the day you finish being angry about it. Reporting a violation of law is the usual core. A personality clash is not the statute. Waiting until the LAD's second year is how a CEPA claim dies while the discrimination claim is still open.
The agency door is shorter still. A complaint at the Division on Civil Rights has to be filed within 180 days after the alleged act, N.J.S.A. 10:5-18. Federal charges under Title VII, the ADEA, and the ADA still often run through the EEOC in 300 days, because New Jersey is a deferral state. Do not hear 'two years' and skip the door you actually needed.
Wages are a different file. So is a car-policy verbal threshold. Do not mix either one with a firing. This is a map of the clocks, not a ruling on one job, and not legal advice.
