A legal utility, not a lawyer billboard
Injured, overwhelmed, and searching for answers. Start here.
LawyerUnc was created to help you. The civil justice system is intentionally opaque. It is designed to make you feel helpless. This platform exists to hand you the playbook: the legal elements, statutory deadlines, and historical verdict data you need to understand a claim before you ever speak to an attorney. This is rigorous, objective information, not legal advice.
When you are armed with the facts and ready to act, the diagnostic will help you find litigators who actively practice in the kind of case. No aggressive sales pitches. No implied attorney-client relationship. Straight answers, and a clear path forward when you need it most.
Time Limits on Your Claim
How long you have to file, with the statute cited and the date we last checked it. Florida's two-year injury window is not a rumor.
Hurt in a Crash
The ordinary personal injury claim: how long you have to file, what happens if you share blame, and what to save. Pick the state where you were hurt.
Problems at Work
Fired, unpaid, or harassed. At-will is not a moral rule. The charge clock is days, not years. Unfair is not the same as illegal.
Free Legal Help
Legal aid, clinics, and bar-referral doors when paying a lawyer (or a contingency file) is not the right path.
Cases We're Watching
What current mass claims actually screen for. Nausea is not gastroparesis. A zip code is not a PFAS case.
Tort Reform, State by State
Shared blame, damage caps, and bills like Florida HB 837, in English. The rules moved. The billboard lawyers did not always tell you.
What You Have to Prove at Court
Duty, breach, cause, harm, written like a person. Five states, six civil claims, with fact patterns instead of Latin.
Cases We're Watching
A live tracker of MDLs, recalls, and mass harm claims in court right now. Not an inventory. Not a promise that your facts fit.
GLP-1 receptor agonists (Ozempic / Wegovy / Mounjaro)
Nausea is on the label. The live inventory is diagnosed gastric emptying disorders and obstructions. Date of first use versus warning-label changes will matter.
PFAS drinking-water contamination
PFAS cases split into water-provider cost cases and personal-injury cases. Only the latter need a qualifying diagnosis. Exposure without injury is usually not a plaintiff personal-injury file.
Asbestos and mesothelioma
Mesothelioma plus a workplace, Navy, or take-home history is this inventory. Cosmetic powder is the talc page. A job title without a diagnosis is not a file. Latency is decades. Do not use a crash deadline as a shortcut.
Chemical hair relaxer
Association is not causation, and a brand-less history is not a file. Qualifying cancers plus years of use is the current gate.
Necrotizing enterocolitis (preterm formula / fortifier)
An August 20, 2026 Abbott agreement is not a diagnosis. The screen is still a preterm baby, a cow's-milk formula or fortifier charted in the NICU, and NEC. Naming both Similac and Enfamil is not the feeding record.
Camp Lejeune water contamination
This is a federal statutory claim against the United States, not a classic mass-tort MDL against a chemical company. Presence dates are binary: 1953–1987, 30 days.
Read before you sign
How to hire a lawyer with confidence
Confirm the bar card, ask who will actually handle the file, and know the red flags before you sign.
What you pay, and who else might get a cut
Contingency percentages, costs if you lose, and what must be in writing if another lawyer is added to the fee.
Depositions, medical exams, and your phone
What usually happens after a case is filed, in the order it usually happens.
Notes
Texas's $250,000 cap is not the car crash
Section 74.301 limits noneconomic damages in a health-care claim, per claimant, and the doctors share one ceiling. It does not cap medical bills, and it does not apply to an ordinary wreck.
New York medical malpractice is two years and six months
That is CPLR 214-a, not the three-year injury clock. A checkup you booked only to see how you are does not restart it. A city hospital is a shorter clock.
New Jersey's whistleblower clock is one year, not two
A Law Against Discrimination lawsuit is generally two years. A CEPA suit is one year. The Division on Civil Rights is 180 days. Unfair is still not illegal.
Georgia's 2025 tort bills did not move the two years
SB 68 and SB 69 were both signed April 21, 2025. The injury clock is still two years, and the blame bar is still 50%. The new seat-belt rule depends on when the lawsuit was filed.
An Abbott formula agreement is not an NEC diagnosis
The August 20, 2026 announcement covered some preterm-formula claims. It did not read your baby's chart. The screen is still prematurity, a cow's-milk feed in the NICU, and necrotizing enterocolitis.
New York's three years is not the federal charge
A Human Rights Law claim can be three years. An EEOC charge is often 300 days. Filing with the Division of Human Rights can also close the courthouse door. Unfair is still not illegal.
New Jersey's lawsuit option is not the 51% bar
You can be zero percent at fault and still not sue for pain and suffering if you bought the limitation-on-lawsuit option. The 51% bar is a different statute. The January 2026 coverage floor did not rewrite either one.
Alabama is not a no-fault state. That is not good news.
There is no PIP lawsuit bar. You look to the at-fault driver. If you share any blame, contributory negligence can still zero the case. That is harsher than Florida, not softer.
New York's 51% bar is a car-crash carveout, not the whole house
On May 26, 2026, CPLR 1411(b) started barring recovery in Article 51 motor-vehicle cases if you are more at fault than the other side. A slip in a store is still pure comparative. Do not borrow Florida's rewrite.
The Texas statute of limitations for breach of contract is four years
Written or oral. The two-year statute is injury. A handshake does not cut the contract clock in half.
Arizona's L'Oreal case is not a hair-relaxer cancer file
The State sued over advertising. MDL 3060 screens for years of chemical relaxer use plus a diagnosed uterine, ovarian, or endometrial cancer. Those are different lawsuits, with different plaintiffs.
Your own Florida PIP is not the crash lawsuit
The 2026 bills that would have killed no-fault died in committee. PIP still pays first, usually $10,000, if you get treated in 14 days. Suing the other driver for pain and suffering is a different claim, with a serious-injury threshold.
Florida workplace claims do not get the car-crash clock
Unfair is not illegal. A Florida Civil Rights Act complaint is due in 365 days. After July 1, 2026, the lawsuit that follows has its own hard dates under Fla. Stat. § 760.11.
A PFAS headline is not a personal-injury case
Water utilities sue over treatment costs. People sue over a diagnosed disease. A tap-water detection is exposure. It is not, by itself, the second kind of case.
The hospital sticker is not the Florida trial number
After March 24, 2023, evidence of past medical expenses in an ordinary injury case is generally the amount paid, not the amount billed. That is Fla. Stat. § 768.0427, not a rumor.
New York gives you three years. The City gives you ninety days.
A private crash is CPLR 214(5): three years from the injury. A city bus, a pothole, or a cop car is a notice of claim in 90 days. Those are not the same clock.
Florida still gives you two years. The subsection number moved.
Ordinary negligence is still two years after HB 837. In the 2026 Florida Statutes that clock lives at § 95.11(5)(a), not the (4)(a) citation from the 2023 session law.
Tort reform changes three things: the clock, the split, and the ceiling
Florida HB 837 and Georgia SB 68 are not mysteries. They change how long you have, what happens if you share blame, and whether a jury can write a number for pain.
Florida’s two-year personal-injury clock is not a rumor
The 2023 amendments to § 95.11 changed the default. If you were hurt after the effective date, waiting “until the bills settle” is how files die.
GLP-1 MDL 3094: nausea is not the inventory
What the Eastern District of Pennsylvania docket is actually screening, and what we will not publish without a diagnosis.
This is LawyerUnc. That is the whole ballgame.
Why 1.5(e) is possible here, why a webpage is still not a client, and why we will not pretend to be the bar’s certified referral service.
How we date YMYL pages
Last checked is not “last updated the CSS.” It is a statute-and-docket pass.
