Model Rule, numbered 3.130(1.5)KY
Kentucky fee division
Kentucky follows the usual split: the work matches, or both lawyers take joint responsibility, you agree in writing, and the total is reasonable. The rule is numbered SCR 3.130(1.5), not 'Kentucky 1.5.'

- The rule
- Ky. SCR 3.130(1.5)(e)
- What you sign
- The client agrees to the arrangement and the agreement is confirmed in writing. The total fee is reasonable. Put each share in that writing even though this subsection does not copy the ABA 'including the share' clause.
- How the split is allowed
- Proportion to services performed, or each lawyer assumes joint responsibility for the representation.
- Any cap on the referring share
- No Florida-style 25% cap. The total fee must be reasonable. Kentucky is a choice no-fault auto state. That is the crash page, not this rule.
- Who is not in the fee
- A nonlawyer does not take a percentage of the recovery. Hosting, ads, and software get a flat or metered bill. That is ABA Model Rule 5.4 in substance, and every state on this desk follows it.
For the lawyer on the other end
Cite SCR 3.130(1.5)(e). A Kentucky grievance file will not open 'Rule 1.5(e)' on a first search.
The client-agreement sentence does not require disclosure of each share. Put the shares in anyway.
